Later this month we celebrate the birth of Jesus, God made flesh. And in His humanity, you’d expect the family tree of Jesus to contain the most holy people from generation to generation, right? But in reality, some of Jesus’ ancestors listed at the start of Matthew’s gospel are downright shocking! It could be said there are skeletons in God’s closet! But the presence of these scandalous names actually points to profound theology that ought to fill us with hope. And that’s exactly what we hope happens this Sunday at church!
